Reach - bringing together voluntary organisations and volunteers with career skills

About our volunteers

Reach volunteers are as diverse as the organisations they serve. They can be young or old, male or female, retired or still working. Many are working part-time, taking a career break or between jobs. They come from all three sectors — public, private and voluntary — and from a broad range of cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Their interests vary widely, as does the time they are able to give to volunteering. Reach volunteers can be found hard at work in all the English regions, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Reach volunteers have one important thing in common: they have high-quality managerial, business, technical or professional skills that can be put to work for the benefit of others.

This graph shows the career experience of the volunteers we have recently placed (in percentages).

Volunteering with Reach
Reach knows that people want different things from volunteering. Some aim to work for tiny local groups, others for huge nation-wide charities. Some feel drawn to a particular area, such as child welfare, the environment or the arts. Some are able to devote many hours to volunteer work, while others can make only a limited time commitment, perhaps only in the evenings or at weekends.

Whoever our volunteers are, whatever their needs, Reach is committed to finding places for them in organisations where they can make a useful contribution and feel good about giving their time.

Testimonials
“Yesterday Inspire invited me to join their board of trustees and I have accepted. Many thanks for your help. Reach is really useful in facilitating contacts between people like myself and the third sector.” M.H.

“I followed up on one of your contacts with a prostate cancer charity. This has proved to be a fantastic opportunity for me. I am working for them 18 hours a week and updating my skills after an extended career break. Equally, they seem thrilled to have my marketing expertise and are continually increasing my remit. Thank you. You are providing an invaluable service.” C.Z.

“I think the three volunteer positions you helped me find are going to keep me occupied for quite a while. Many thanks for what you do with connecting volunteers with potential opportunities.” C.H.
